In 1991, trucking companies in Illinois were faced with skyrocketing workers' compensation rates, ineffective insurance services and canceled insurance coverage due to the risks of the trucking industry. The Mid-West Truckers Association (MTA) joined forces with CCMSI and MTRMA was born on June 15, 1991, after the approval from the Illinois Department of Insurance under the authority of Rule 29.01 as self-insured workers' compensation program.The fundamental purpose for the program was to provide an affordable and stable long-term workers' compensation alternative for reputable, qualifying trucking companies in Illinois. The Mid-West Truckers Association has sponsored the program since it's inception, offering its members affordable workers' compensation. 
MTRMA continues to service over 480 Illinois domiciled trucking companies with aggressive claims management, customized loss control and a designated client service team. Our designated client service team includes program management, claims, loss control, underwriting, managed care, and support. While we do have a few new faces to the team, most have been with MTRMA for more than 10 years or since inception and specialize in the trucking industry.The Executive Board and Board of Directors have provided consistent leadership and stability to MTRMA since the inception of the program. All of the board members have extensive trucking industry backgrounds. Since 1995, MTRMA has returned $8.75 million to its members. The Board of Directors reviews the surplus at the end of each policy year and votes for the return of contribution to membership. In order to qualify, members must be in the program for 3 years, they must be a member of the program at the time the return in given and their losses can not exceed their maximum claim fund on the year the return is based upon.
